HELLENIC HERITAGE AWARDS

The Hellenic Heritage Awards was hosted for the second year by the Greek Independence Day Parade Committee. His Eminence Archbishop Dimitrios, Grand Marshall for this year's event, commended the awardees for their contribution to their community. Recipients included: Alex Alexopoulos, Kay Resh, Nicholas T. George, Dr. Eleftherios Botsaris, and Dr. Denny Stavros. The photo attached includes last years recipients Penny Voudoukis, Lou Vlahantones, Dr. Theodore Pantos and Spiro Theros.
The Awards recognize those individuals who are senior members of the community and have achieved exemplary distinction in laying the foundation of their faith and culture as they immigrated and assimilated into our society. The honorees will join Archbishop Demetrios and Metropolitan Nicholas at Sunday’s Parade. They will be joined by dignitaries, including representatives of Federal, State and Local Government, and the Consulate of Greece in Chicago.
A highlight of the evening was the performance of the unit of “Evzones” and “Amalies” from the region of Eprios and the city of Arta. Under the direction of Kostandinos Demitriou, the group added much to the event. Also performing from the Detroit area were the Kyklos Society for the Performing Arts, and the Omega Dancers from St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Troy, MI. Music was provided by the Levendes and Oneiro.
