Beyond the Rainbow - The Judy Garland Story

Malista was able to attend the opening night at the Meadowbrook Theatre for "Beyond the Rainbow" The Judy Garland Story by William Randall Beard, starring Kimberly Vanbiesbrouck as Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall and Andrea Mellos as Young Judy Garland. The cast who played multiple roles included: Chris Korte, Milica Govich, and Seth Amadei. The production was charged with drama and wonder. The musical score is vast and Ms. Vanbiesbrouck as Judy at Carnegie Hall does an amazing impersonation of the tragic star. Her performance of such memorable classics made famous by Ms. Garland was flawless and included, Swanee, Zing, Went the Strings of My Heart, the Trolley Song, and Me and My Gal, to name a few. Of Course, Somewhere Over the Rainbow brought the house to their feet, and the closing encore, San Framsico was a highlight well worth waiting for. Ms. Mellos was a wonderful supporting star and her poigniant rendering of young Judy was vivid and tugged on the strings of the audience's hearts. The duets performed by Ms. Vanbiesbrouck and Ms. Mellos were exceptional and allowed the audience to actually feel the flashback sequences.

The show will continue through February 7, 2009. Ticket are available online and at the Meadowbrook box office.
