Consul General Hosts Reception
in Windsor for Independence Day!
Consul
General of Greece Welcomes Local Area Hellenes at Reception
On Sunday evening
in Windsor Ontario Canada, the Consul General of Greece, Efthymios Efthymiades,
hosted a pre-Independence Day reception at the Hellenic Banquet Center.
Mr. Efthymiades traveled with his staff from their Toronto Consulate base
to share in the festivities with the Greek Canadian and American Communities
lining the Detroit River. His message was a clear statement from Greece
of their kindest regards for the Greeks of the Diaspora and their contribution
to Greece now and present. He acknowledged the efforts of the program
organizer, Tom Athanasopoulos, President of the Holy Cross Church, and
committee members for their efforts to make the event memorable.
Also on hand to address
guests were Mr. G. Baxter, the Mayor of the City of Lasalle, and Mr. Dave
Brister Councilor of the City of Windsor, who spoke on behalf of the Mayor
of the City of Windsor. Each congratulated organizers and the Greek Community
for their continued support of the local Windsor area. They welcomed the
Consul General with much gratitude for selecting Windsor as the location
to open Independence Day Celebrations.
The national anthems
were sung while being projected on a large screen, much to the enchantment
of the audience. Following welcoming statements a wonderful dance presentation
was performed by the Greek youth of the parish. Their charm and talent
lent to the overall success of the evening. Pictured with the article
and in our photo gallery are listed dignitaries and Daughters of Penelope
District Governor Penny Khorraminia, Past Canadian President, Chris Papadopoulos,
Greek Consul General, Efthymiades and a large Detroit area contingency
from the Thamyris Chapter, Grosse Pointe.
