Surprise a Success!
By Contributing Writer Elena Kerasiotis
July 20, 2007 - Detroit,
MI - Everyone quiet, they are coming. Do you think they know anything?
Do you think that they have guessed? The tables were set; the balloons
gaily hovered over the flower-strewn tort, announcing the 45th Wedding
Anniversary of Dr. Ignatios and Penny Voudoukis. Guests began to arrive
slowly, each recalling a story, a shared experience, all anticipating
the arrival of the guests of honor. Videographer, Greg Hilakis, positioned
his equipment to capture their arrival. Old Parthenon Restaurant in Greektown
owner Polyvios Panagopoulos was on hand to welcome his guests as well,
recalling his days as dance director of the Hellenic Society for the Performing
Arts under the tutelage of Penny Voudoukis.
Finally, a hush fell
and a voice could be heard proclaiming, "I knew something was happening!
There had to be reason to climb all of these stairs, just for a drink."
The surprise was a success, the glowing faces of Dr. and Penny Voudoukis
with obvious delight greeted their awaiting guests. Hosts, Daughter and
Son-in-law, Chris Ann and Nick Roncone and Grand Daughter, Olivia, beamed
with satisfaction as their parents were enfolded with congratulatory hugs
and kisses.
Daughter, Chris Ann,
obviously moved, made a champagne toast on behalf of the couple. Dr. and
Penny both graciously welcomed and thanked their guests for joining in
the festivities. Glancing around the room, Dr. Voudoukis, with his usual
embracing warmth acknowledged each guest not as a mere acquaintance but
indeed, as true and unshakeable friends, friends that had traveled with
them together through out the many years with his loving bride. He relayed
precious memories, and thanked all for joining in the celebration.
Following a wonderful
dinner filled with much conversation, the couple cut the wedding cake.
Glancing upon the tables adorned with black and white wedding photos recalling
their special day, they kissed, as they had not so long ago, sharing another
precious moment with the promise of many more in the future. Guests slowly
began to leave, each with their own special thoughts, but each knowing
that they had shared in a very special day for a very special couple,
Dr. and Mrs. Penny Voudoukis. Many more happy years together.
