Georgia on My Mind, a Testimonial to Achievement and Dedication

May 5, 2007 - Sheraton Four Points Hotel, Schiller Park, IL - Sweet Georgia on my mind. Daughters of Penelope Dione Chapter #316 feted Grand President, Georgia Psichogios in royal style in an evening of acknowledgement for her contribution and years of service dedicated to the organization. Chapter President, Dorothea Ganas, welcomed dignitaries, friends and family. Toastmistress Past Grand President, Catherine C. Ferguson, opened the festivities by sharing with the crowd brief moments that highlighted Georgia's unique ability to lead the organization with quiet refinement and dignity, her dedication to family, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Psichogios, her District, and her Chapter.

Dinner followed, with the grand finale presentation of cherries jubilee, listening to the strains of Georgia on my Mind, and the Siinatra Hit, Chicago is My Kind of Town. Dorothea Ganas, Dione Chapter #316, George C Patazelos, District #13 AHEPA Governor, Evangeline Apostol Poulos, Daughter District #13 Governor, Grand Vice-President Karen Stamatiades, and Gus James AHEPA Supreme President offered remarks.

Georgia, obviously moved by the tribute, thanked guests for their acknowledgement and the kind words offered on her behalf. In her usual, refined eloquence, she addressed her Chapter, District and National Lodge for making her years in the organization a joyous celebration of friendship.

"The Sisters of Dione Chapter outdid themselves on my behalf. They are a dynamic group of women and I love them all dearly."

She humbly shared her surprise in having attained the position of Grand President at all, moving from one position to the next with little thought to the passing of so many years, filled with so many rich and fulfilling memories. She closed sharing that she only hoped that the organization had gained as much from her participation as she had, and that she looked forward to many more productive and rewarding years together.

A Commemorative CD prepared by Kiki Hartz a talented chapter member, as a treasured favor for each guest, really tells her story. Georgia, Sweet Georgia, the whole day through, proud of her roots, Chicago, her kind of town, and the Zebekikko music, connecting her to her proud Greek Heritage. Photographs that accompany this article were lovingly taken by Georgia's biggest fan, her dad, Gus Psichogios, who has chronicled his daughter's every success with much pride and joy. Photos capturing forever the defining moments of this small but mighty package, dedicated to her sisterhood and their mission, a one of kind tribute, to a one of kind gal, Chicago's own, Sweet and Grand, Georgia Psichogios.
