An Interview with Pavlo Classical Guitar Sensation
An Interview with Pavlo, “Mediterranean” Classical Guitar Sensation Photos in Gallery To define a musical genre is not easy; to create a classical guitar sound so unique that none can claim it, that is Pavlo’s special contribution, a “Mediterranean” sound. A distinct blending of Latin, Flamenco, Salsa, and Bouzouki, Pavlo delivers a sound that wraps the listener with the warmth of romance handed down through the ages. Writing since the age of 13, Pavlo has been working his craft since striking the first note on his Stratocaster. A Greek-Canadian from Toronto, whose roots stem from the fur capital of Greece, Kastoria, shares that his Pontian father’s love of music, has inspired him to pursue his musical dreams. Influenced by such artists as Jose Feliciano to Liona Boyd, his music fills its own distinctive niche. He describes it as “Organic,” a sound filled with live instrumental sound, no digital fills, just pure “organic” instrumental sound, played by a solid group of musicians, so in accord with one another, that they practice as they write. “We live and are the music, we practice as we perform, we perform when we practice, there is a certain synergy between us, so strong that the sound just takes on a personality of its own, and we, the performers, merely gift it to the audience.” Those of you who had the opportunity to experience Pavlo live this past month at the International Banquet and Conference Center when he graciously donated his time to support the American Hellenic Congress Fundraiser to reforest the burnt areas of Greece, have already enjoyed Pavlo and will appreciate his return to the Detroit area. On January 25th at 7:30 at the Ford Centre for the Performing Arts, he will perform and film his First Public Television Special. He will be accompanied by a 20 piece band including Flamenco, Salsa and Belly Dancers. The special will air on PBS television in the Detroit market in March 2008 and then later nationally in the U.S. in June 2008. Tickets for the event are $35/$50 and are available at 313-943-2354 or online at pavlo.net or dearbornfordcenter.com. In 2008, Pavlo will perform in 200 cities; his enthusiasm is infectious as he stands on the brink of fame. Call your friends, invite them to join you, make plans to meet and join Pavlo in an evening of exciting Mediterranean sound. I am sure that you will not want to miss being a part of this “Break out” event. Malista!
