Mother's Day Thoughts
by Contributing Writer Elena Kerasiotis

This morning while attempting to update the events area, it came to mind that on Sunday, May 13, 2007, another Mother's Day would be upon us. Always a much-revered event, Mother's Day has come to mean so much to each of us. A thought or a memory of youth, a moment in time when we were once again the perfect child, the child that would fill the promise of the future, the next generation. At times a heavy burden, until the moment when you too have the privilege to hold your own child in your arms, realizing the vast responsibility of participating in the building of posterity.

This Mother's Day, Malista has had the opportunity to make our two first announcements, the birth of Elle, and the baptism of Christopher. For the parents the joy of creation, and for the grandparents, the joy or renewal; once again to be able to nurture and watch the unfolding of a new life, a life so innocent, just waiting to grasp all that this world has to offer. Once again being offered the opportunity to make a difference, awash in the memories of the joys and sorrows not so far in memory of days when you too had been a new parent. Believing that birth and death are offered to truly know both joy and sorrow; for without sorrow, true joy would remain undefined.

Watching the rapture in the eyes of the young parents and the pride of the yiayia and papou, touching the innocent hand of their newly baptized Christian, knowing for this brief moment in time, they were in the presence of untarnished innocence. Their lives coming full circle before them, knowing that life with all its concerns and problems was worth the effort, if only to watch the future unfold through this child of hope.

So this Mother's Day, be grateful for the moments with your mothers, grateful for the moments as a mother, and grateful for the moments of sharing with a mother the joy of creation, the joy of renewal and the joy of just being alive.

Happy Mother's Day to one and all.
