Designing Women Decorate Tables for Charity
Designing women led by the Daughters of Penelope, Thamyris Chapter of Grosse Pointe, are pleased to present their upcoming fundraiser, the 5th Annual Festival of Tables, on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. This outstanding community event, has two viewings, one from 2:00-4:00pm and one from 4:30-8:00pm, of 30 theme-decorated tables and a gift boutique. Included with the second viewing is dinner, a fashion show by Coldwater Creek, and a silent auction. Calli Duncan, chair of this year’s event, advises that the visitors can expect some new surprises. “We are especially pleased that the Pewabic Gallery will be participating in this year’s festivities by designing a beautiful table display. They plan to offer their past signature Christmas ornaments for purchase, as well. In addition, we have created an inviting commemorative calendar of last year’s tables, which will be available for purchase. Thanks to the efforts of a truly dedicated committee, we expect another sellout crowd at dinner, and at least 400 at our first viewing.” Proceeds from the first viewing will benefit St. John’s Van Elslander Liggett Breast Center. Over the past four years, the Chapter has enjoyed an alliance with Liggett volunteers, who generously decorate two tables and provide gift bags filled with valuable breast cancer awareness materials for guests. “We have been working with Liggett Breast Center for 4 years and have really enjoyed collaborating with their volunteer support group, led by Bernadine Sherwood, Manager VanElslander Cancer Center, Mary Natscheke, Manager, Valade Healing Arts Center, Jeannine Mercurio, Nurse Navigator and newly appointed volunteer contact, LaJuana Fuller, Manager Liggett Breast Center. Carolyn Kaczmarek, volunteer and cancer survivor will be designing one of this year’s tables, “Garden of Hope.” The gift boutique will feature Chaundy Art Gallery, Jacobson’s Alumni Association, Family Jewels, Alexis Jewelry, At Last, and Judy Duffy Boutique of Harbor Springs. Unique silent auction items contributed by local area merchants and friends of the organization are sure to tempt holiday shoppers in the crowd. Co-chair, Sandy Moisides, adds, “We are looking forward to visiting with Jeanie McNeal who will again showcase the event in an upcoming segment of Positively Positive on WMTV 5 at the War Memorial.” Committee members include: co-chairs Sandy Moisides and Dori Daskas; Stella Ferris, Effie Gehlert, Georgia Gianoplos, Tina Joanides, Connie Katikos, Elena Kerasiotis, Penny Khorraminia, Cathy Livingston, Mary Penz, Ann Saurbier, Natalie Simon, Corinne Smith, Olga Tecos, Maria Tasiopoulos, Maria Torakis and Dorothea Williams.
