Do Matter! The Daughters of Penelope, Thamyris Chapter, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, is announcing their annual Fall fundraiser, The Festival of Tables, on October 22, 2006 at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. Event Chairperson, Sandy Moisides, along with Co-Chairs, Dori Daskas and Elena Kerasiotis, will again join forces to support the Liggett Breast Cancer Center. Bernadine Sherwood, Nurse Navigator and Mary Ruhana, Manager of the Van Elslander Cancer Center, will assist the group to promote breast cancer awareness at the event. Now in its fourth year, the Festival of Tables has become a Grosse Pointe area standard. Guests are invited to peruse thirty themed tables decorated by chapter members and local area merchants with fine china, linens and floral arrangements. Although this year's table displays are still being designed, they are sure to include various Holiday, Cancer Awareness, and Hellenic Themes. In addition, guests may visit a fully stocked holiday mart, featuring Jacobson's Alumni, Chaundy Gallery, and 925 Silver Design, as part of the extravaganza. "It's about making adifference in the community and the lives of women. We know that participating and supporting this event will help woman going through Cancer treatment with special needs," advised Ms. Moisedes. Viewing of the tables will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (tickets for viewing are $10) Evening viewing begins at 4:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:00 p.m.when the Daughters of Penelope will host dinner guests at each table. Tickets for the dinner are $50, and include a fashion show by Jane Woodbury and a silent auction featuring items such as jewelry, art, and holiday gift baskets. Sponsorships are available for those unable to attend or wish to support the program. The Daughters of Penelope is a national Greek-American Christian service organization, whose philanthropic mission is to support community, youth and women's interests. In addition, the organization promotes Hellenism and the scholastic endeavors of Greek American youth by supporting District and National scholarship programs.
