Grand President, Karen Stamatiades Presents Donation on Behalf of National Daughters of Penelope
Donations Designated for New Roof, Scholarships
ATLANTA (September 12, 2007)The Daughters of Penelope (DOP), a preeminent international womens organization, contributed a total of $37,500 to St. Basil Academy, at a gala dinner celebrating the 85th anniversary of the founding of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) on September 8, 2007
His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios received the presentation from Grand President Karen Stamatiades that included:
Our mission includes philanthropy, education, and family and individual excellence; and our love for St. Basils is very much a part of our mission, said Stamatiades. Our work to help the academy, a wonderful home for children who need a home, is ongoing.
Also on-hand for the presentation ceremony were Evellyn Tsiadis, president, Board of Trustees of St. Basil Academy and DOP Past Grand President; Melva Zinaich, president, DOP Foundation, Inc.; and two currently enrolled students.
Over its history, the Daughters of Penelope donated a dormitory and a pool to the academy. Annually, the DOP provides for the maintenance of the pool.
St. Basil Academy, located in Garrison, N.Y., is a national not-for-profit philanthropic center of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America which provides love, shelter, food, education, protection and a home for her orphans, children of chronically ill or destitute parents or children from broken homes.
