Judge Announces Candidacy to Retain
Wayne County
Circuit Court Seat
Greek-American Launches First CampaignJudge Eric Cholack has announced his intention to campaign for a full six-year term on the Wayne County Circuit Court bench, a position he was first appointed to by Governor Jennifer Granholm in December 2008.
“I take the responsibility of upholding the law very seriously,” Judge Cholack said in making his announcement. “Rulings of the court can have an enormous impact on people’s lives. For this reason, I am humbled and honored to serve the public in this capacity. I find the work of listening carefully to both sides’ arguments and being tough but fair in my rulings to be very demanding and rewarding at the same time,” Judge Cholack stated.
Born and raised in Grosse Pointe Farms, Judge Cholack was an Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor for the first six years of his legal career, during which time he successfully prosecuted violent felons. For the next twelve years, he started and built his own private law practice. He specialized in negotiation and mediation, acting as a neutral third-party facilitator trying to help parties reach a “win-win” solution, rather than undergo a “win-lose” court battle. Judge Cholack was appointed to fill the vacancy created when Diane Hathaway was elected to the Michigan Supreme Court in November 2008.
Judge Cholack is the son of George and Jeanne Cholack. He was baptized and attended Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in St. Clair Shores with his family as a child. Judge Cholack is a member of Sts. Constantine and Helen in Westland and served on the church council for six years from 2004 – 2009. He is also a former President and Board member of the Hellenic Bar Association.
A University of Michigan and Harvard Law School graduate, Judge Cholack is a Northville Township resident and is married to Anastasia, his wife of 16 years with whom he has two children, George and Maria.
