Hellenic Heritage Awards

The First Reciepients of the Hellenic Heritage Award to be honored Saturday, April 5th at the Royalty House of Warren.

The first recipients of these awards are John Butsicaris, Nick Kastrantas, Dr. Ted Pantos, Manuel Papista, Dr. Demetrios T. Politis, Popi Teknos, Spero Theros, and Louis Vlahantones. They will receive their awards at the Parade Banquet Saturday, April 5, at the Royalty House on Chicago Road in Warren, Michigan. Each year outstanding individuals and their accomplishments will be awarded and their significant contributions preserved in the history of Greek Americans in Detroit.

The Hellenic Heritage Awards represent those who have demonstrated leadership in establishing the Hellenic community as well as the greater metropolitan Detroit community. “It is time we recognize the contributions of so many who have immigrated, assimilated and enriched the culture of America with their efforts on behalf of the Greek community”, said George Reganis, Chairperson of the Detroit Greek Parade Committee. “We want to preserve the history of generations of Greeks who were part of the development of this wonderful country we live in. So little has been recorded or presented about Hellenic culture and its people in our city.”

The Banquet will also highlight the exciting visit of the Evzone and Amalies groups from Greece. The Banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the program at 8:00 p.m. The Group formed in 1994 has performed in major cities through out Greece, Europe, Australia and Canada. Accompanying the group will be Professor Dimitri Karavasilies their dance instructor. For Banquet information and reservations, call Penny at 313-802-9154
